APOLLON - STOP TRYNA BE GOD
waltraud900
Γνώθι σεαυτόν – “Know yourself”: Carved not in white marble but in bright yellow neon, the evening’s motto urges us to question ourselves. Who wouldn’t want to walk through the portal made of transparent spheres? What lies on the other side? A group of young, masculine-presenting performers are determined to find out! As they attempt to pass through the gate, Apollo himself appears – the god of light, music, prophecy and healing. The group questions Apollo – the epitome of the man from ancient Greece – relentlessly. After all, if anyone knows what a “real man” is and how to pull it off these days, it must be Apollo… right? Or is it perhaps about something entirely different from what we’re told?
The classical Greek texts are brought into the here and now by waltraud900 and the Ensemble radically. APOLLON – STOP TRYNA BE GOD breaks with the familiar conventions of ancient drama and develops them further in a multilingual production featuring German, Azerbaijani, Arabic, Chinese, Greek and Russian. On stage, the performers explore themes of masculinity, love, role models and insecurities in today’s world. The Sons of the Future share their personal reflections on the social pressures they experience, capturing not only the spirit of the times but striking a chord deep in the heart. Get ready for a unique and emotional journey with this magnificent ensemble, which brings the ancient world of the gods to Dortmund.
