MAKING THE STORY – Ukrainische Fixer im Krieg

Futur 3

Research theatre
German / Ukrainian / English
with surtitles in all three languages
~ 90 min., 14 +

The striking live music, featuring sombre piano and Ukrainian vocals by Mariana Sadovska, holds the evening together. Without this score, it would be almost unbearable to follow the individual stories of the fixers as they delve into the human abysses of war. The theatre collective Futur 3 takes us on a journey into the grey borderlands of reporting, where telling stories of life, dying and death in war is part of everyday life – day in, day out.
For over a year, the team followed fixers at work on the ground in Ukraine. They are the link between international journalists and the local population. Yet their work remains invisible in the news reports and articles we see and read. This theatre evening offers us an intimate insight into the personal upheavals and turning points that war brings with it. In doing so, the production lays bare the fractures in work ethic, security risks, recognition and postcolonial dynamics within journalism, without passing moral judgement.

Über die Künstler*innen

Futur3, under the artistic direction of André Erlen and Stefan H. Kraft, focuses on the ongoing development of an original performance style and on involving the performers right from the conceptualisation phase. Through research-based and often site-specific projects, carried out in collaboration with external experts, the ensemble transforms the theatre into a space for social engagement that goes beyond the purely aesthetic.
