The phone rings; who’s calling you?
Before dating apps existed, there were landline phones. At the Oma Doris dance café, guests could once arrange to go dancing straight from their seats. To this day, the venue retains its 1970s charm, with velvet seating alcoves, numbered tables and a brightly lit dance floor. This unique history of the venue serves as the starting point for Call Me Maybe.
In collaboration with the Master’s programme in Szenische Forschung at Ruhr University Bochum, a network format is being developed that blends dating, music, encounters and artistic experimentation. Instead of business cards and small talk, you can expect surprising conversation topics, unusual encounters and playful situations that foster new connections.
Call Me Maybe is aimed at professionals in the independent arts scene who are keen to get to know other artists, curators, producers and cultural practitioners beyond traditional networking events. Amidst telephone handsets, chance encounters and staged meetings, conversations and collaborations emerge – and perhaps the start of joint projects.
An opportunity for anyone who’d rather make connections than simply collect contacts.
