INTO IT

How do those on stage feel? What does it take to dance the movements we see? In INTO IT by performing:group and Marie-Lena Kaiser, the choreography for four dancers doesn’t simply happen – it unfolds and becomes a story. It is less a dance piece than a dance-based play. Lively and collaborative, the focus here is on movement – of bodies and relationships.
At the start, the audience is seated on four sides around the stage. But little by little, we move closer. And where we would normally have to be quiet, we are allowed to speak to the dancers: through stories and brief interactions, the audience is gently drawn in. Bit by bit, slide by slide, the boundary between inside and outside shifts. Playful and light-hearted, everything here revolves around the multi-layered aspects of social closeness. And that isn’t always entirely smooth. We are allowed to come closer, or step back, help support the weight of a head, or say no.

Accessible and honest, INTO IT creates something that inspires: whether you’re watching contemporary dance for the first time or are an established fan, whether you’re 10 or 90 years old, it doesn’t matter here. A captivating piece that creates a series of small encounters and even incorporates suggestions from the audience into the dance. And so, at the end, a rare, precious moment unfolds: just how much fun it is to dance together!
