GATE TALK ABOUT ART, SPORT AND EMOTION

BALLWECHSELDiskursformatOST-WEST / WEST-OST WERKSTATTDeutsch

No communities without a feeling. But what determines whether groups come together openly and in solidarity or are defined by segregation and hatred? An exchange with people who create spaces for civic engagement in sport, culture and politics and who campaign against right-wing extremist tendencies. What does day-to-day commitment look like in the respective sector? How has the work changed in recent years? And what can sport and art learn from each other in their commitment? Perspectives from West and East Germany will have their say in the discussion.
Participants: Dominik Renneke (dramaturge and curator, Burg Hülshoff), Attila Bihari (organisation team #Heimspiel, social and neighbourhood work for people with migration biographies), Dr Sandra Zabel (member of the Chemnitz City Council), Volkan Ugur (employee of the Coordination Office for Diversity, Tolerance and Democracy of the City of Dortmund). Moderation: Dorothea Marcus (cultural journalist and theatre critic)

About the guests:
Dominik Renneke is a dramaturge and curator. He studied German language and literature, theatre studies, curating in the scenic arts and history in Münster, Salzburg and Bochum. After working as a director with Ersan Mondtag and Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson, he has been working at Burg Hülshoff – Centre for Literature as a dramaturge with a focus on participatory formats since 2018. In 2020 he founded the initiative Call it Classism – Klassismus im Kulturbetrieb. As a lecturer, he gives seminars and workshops on formats of participatory literature mediation.

Attila Bihari, born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1986, discovered his love for football at an early age – but not for the CFC. After the racist riots in 2018 and other incidents, he created #Heimspiel in 2021 with a group of volunteers, for example from CFC Fans against Racism. This was a value-oriented tournament with a socially critical supporting programme centred around football (awarded the DFB Julius Hirsch Prize in 2023). Attila works in social and neighbourhood work for people with migration biographies. He is part of the organising team of #Heimspiel and on the board of ASA-FF e.V.

Dr Sandra Zabel is a member of Chemnitz City Council, a research assistant at Chemnitz University of Technology in the Department of Social Education and a consultant at Aktion Jugendschutz Sachsen e.V. Volkan Ugur works at the Coordination Office for Diversity, Tolerance and Democracy in the city of Dortmund. The coordination centre provides advice on right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism. It also offers support with preventative and democracy-promoting measures and aims to encourage local alliances and initiatives to take action against anti-democratic tendencies.
