DIE LETZTE KÖNIGIN / FESTIVAL MEDIA LIBRARY

Édith Voges Nana Tchuinang

FilmMediathekdigital14+

What is it like to be a Black actress? What role is there for her in German theatre? What happens to the appropriation of cultural heritage, such as the statue of Queen Ngonnso? The artist and performer Édith Voges Nana Tchuinang asks herself these questions and combines them into a coherent narrative. In the film DIE LETZTE KÖNIGIN (The Last Queen), she embarks on various journeys and explores the diverse stories of Black women. This brings the time before Cameroon became a German colony and its emancipatory potential into our present.

The film is a direct confrontation with the historiography and practices of the global North. An opening up of spaces at the interface between the documentary and the imaginary.
