#3 Social justice?
How can theatre be used as a platform to make social injustices visible and give space to marginalised voices? Which spaces of exchange are necessary, which already exist? This episode explores how theatre can not only tell stories, but also actively contribute to change by opening up new perspectives and highlighting opportunities for social change?

Yacouba Coulibaly
Yacouba Coulibaly was born in Abidjan in 1997 and has lived in Germany / Dortmund since November 2013. Yacouba Coulibaly has been active as an actor (in the transnational ensemble Labsa), poetry slamer and storyteller on various stages in the Ruhr region since 2015. He has twice been a jury member at the LKJ and leads Coupe Decale dance workshops on the music and dance form from the Ivory Coast in collaboration with other artists. Yacouba Coulibaly is also a speaker with experience and knowledge on the topics of society without exclusion, underrepresented stories and empowerment, e.g. at the Kultur Konferenz Ruhr, Interkultur Ruhr, Fachforum Deutscher Kinder und Jugendliche Tag (DJHT).
Yacouba Coulibaly studied social work at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund (graduated in September 2021).
Josefine Rose Habermehl, Position Activism
Josefine Rose Habermehl (born 1988, Herne) studied German Studies, Theatre Studies (B.A.) and Scenic Research (M.A.) at the Ruhr University in Bochum. She has been working as a freelance art and cultural worker since 2014. She creates solo and collective works at the interface between performance, installation and happening. In 2017, she and her colleagues opened the atelier automatique, a co-working space for artists and cultural workers, which is supported by the association ‘Gemeinschaft zur Förderung und Vernetzung der freien Künste Bochums e.V.’.
In October 2019, Habermehl began studying for a Master’s degree in Applied Sustainability and wrote her thesis on reporting for the common good in the arts and culture sector. As part of her Master’s thesis, she produced the first public value balance sheet for the atelier automatique sponsoring association. The idea for the MURX repair festival, which has been taking place regularly since 2021, was also developed during her studies.
Since July 2023, Josefine Rose Habermehl has been working at Bochum University of Applied Sciences on the project ‘Repair & Share Ruhr – Alliance for more common good’, which aims to build a network for repair and sharing initiatives in the Ruhr area and create a common infrastructure.
Sebastian Schlecht, Position Science
Sebastian Schlecht is the founder of lala.ruhr – the laboratory for landscape and architecture – and the Biennale of Urban Landscape. As an experienced architect and urbanist, he has worked on the sustainable transformation of cities and also in international exchange, including for the NRW State Initiative for Building Culture and the European Green Capital Essen. He also has experience as a set designer and curator and is a member of the board of Jugend Architektur Stadt e.V. (JAS) and Architects for Future. Following teaching assignments at TU Berlin and RWTH Aachen University, he currently teaches at the Department of Urban Construction Processes at TU Dortmund University and in the Master’s programme Temporary Uses at Politecnico di Milano.
