A performance is a long quiet river

Céline Bellut

ProduktionEnglischDance performance16+

Which bodies does our society classify as active and dynamic? Who is viewed as passive, weak or lazy? By assuming that human beings define themselves through their actions, philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre outlined the seemingly clear distinction between activity and passivity as made by society. Céline Bellut questions whether this distinction is still up to date and criticizes the privileged perspective from which it arose. Together with two dancers, two artists and a composer, A performance is a long quiet river investigates the performative potential of boredom, translating different concepts of passivity into dance and collective thinking into movement. An invitation to understand doing nothing as the beginning of something.
